Welcome! We know that you have an incredible number of choices of shops to visit and we really are grateful you’ve chosen Sunny’s. Whether you buy anything or not, we are happy you stopped in.

This is our listing for AAA-Grade Black Kyanite fans for Black Kyanite fans!
At the very bottom of this page, we explain our grading.

We currently have five (5) sizes to offer. A few words before we do though… Kyanite tends to be very light. If you are holding two pieces of Kyanite that are exactly the same length, width, and height – the one that is heavier is the one of lesser quality. This is because Kyanite is always lighter than the inclusion within it. As this is AAA-grade, the weights are very low. As a result, we’ve chosen to size these according to weight because so many of the lengths are misleading. We realize you may not need us to explain these things but we really want to be transparent and we figure that the best way for us to do that is to explain our thinking on things like this.

X-Small: 3-6 g. 1-2”
Small: 6-10 g. 1.25-2.75”
Medium: 10-13 g. 1.75-3”
Large: 14-17 g. 1.5-2”
X-Large: 17-25 g. 1.75-3”

Next up: Three fun facts about Black Kyanite!

1. Legend has it that the archangel Michael’s sword is made from Black Kyanite, and this sword is legendary for its strength and miraculous powers.
2. Kyanite was named by the ancient Greeks. It was named after their word for ‘deep blue’ because at the time of its naming, Blue Kyanite was more abundant.
3. Kyanite is often found in mountainous regions because it is present in rocks that are formed by immense collisions – such as those between tectonic plates.

IF YOU ARE NEW TO THE WORLD OF CRYSTALS - PLEASE READ:

We enthusiastically encourage everyone to do their own research including what Sunny calls, ‘an intuitive interview’ with all your crystals. Just as every person has things that make them unique, so too does every crystal. All humans and all Kyanite have things in common, but they are all individuals as well. Sit with them, be with them – and create an individualized relationship with your crystals. For every different crystal or stone that you order, you’ll find a brief description and some of our observations about the crystals strengths and uses. Rarely more than a paragraph, we keep it brief because we feel like it would be a disservice to spare you the journey. You already have everything you need to know everything there is about your crystal inside of you. Trust yourself! Nevertheless, if you have specific questions, never hesitate to message us.

And now, a five-ish things we think you may wish to know:

1. Consider the wonders we can see with the naked eye. They pale in comparison to what we realize when we look with the naked mind.
2. You may have noted that we always start this section with a quote. The reason that we don’t credit anyone is because they are all our personal sayings. Though we tend to use a different quote for every stone, we do share the same quote within families – i.e., all Amethysts, Jaspers, Quartz, Calcites, etc.
3. Regarding our photos: We are brand new to photography. All our photos are taken with an Android phone that has a non-working flash. We take all of our photos in a lightbox and then convert them to high definition to compensate for this. Our crystals are all photographed dry – never wet. Lastly, all our photographic efforts are to designed to represent our products as honestly as we can.
4. All sizes/weights are estimates that are made in good faith. Lengths are calculated by measuring the longest side.
5. Before an order is shipped it sits on our alter during our thirty-minute morning meditation during which we dedicate Metta to the order heading to you. If for any reason, or even no reason, you would prefer we don’t do this with your order, please let us know so we can respect your wishes.
6. In every way that matters, we are all brothers and sisters awaiting the family reunion. Until then, if no one has told you they love you today, know that we do.

If you have ANY questions, requests, suggestions, etc., please do not hesitate to message us.

Grading Information:

All our graded products will include this section at the end of the listing. It will not change. You’ve no doubt seen Premium Grade, First Quality, A/B Grade, Good to Very Good, etc., etc. There is no end of grading systems out there – and no consistency. We would like to make things easier when you visit us so here is the grading system you’ll find here:

Special Quality: Best of the best. The next step up is faceted gemstones.
AAA-Grade: Also known as Extra Quality.
AA-Grade: Also known as Premium Grade.
A-Grade:
AB-Grade:
B-Grade:

Although we don’t carry anything below this category, there are other categories including C-Grade and D-Grade. You might also see someone talking about a Mine Run. A Mine Run is unsorted product of mixed quality. That description, while accurate, is misleading. Here’s why: Let’s pretend that you are the mine fore-person. You are looking at unsorted amethyst and most of it is an incredibly deep purple that was almost blinding in its intensity. You’re probably not going to decide to bundle that up as ‘mine run’ are you? You’ll probably take the time to sort it, right? So, even though material labelled ‘mine run’ is mixed quality, it usually consists of a lower quality mix. Likewise with material graded AB. If there were more A-Grade specimens than B-Grade specimens, most folks would sort it rather than slap an AB grade on it.

It would be unethical of us to share wholesale pricing for specific products, but we want to offer two examples taken from the pricelist of one of our favorite wholesalers. First, an inexpensive crystal that they sell in four different grades.

B-Grade: $6.00 per pound
A-Grade: $8.50 per pound
AA-Grade: $14.00 per pound
AAA-Grade: $20.00 per pound

A-grade costs 42% more than B-Grade. AA-grade costs 233% more than B-Grade. AAA-Grade costs 333% more than B-Grade. Here’s one more example from a more expensive crystal that the same wholesaler sells in three grades.

B-Grade: $43.50/lb.
A-Grade: $72.25/lb.
AAA-Grade: $110.00/lb.

We added these examples hoping that you’d see how much of a price variation can occur between grades even with the same seller. The choice of what grade you buy is completely up to you – but we hope we’ve demystified the grading system somewhat.
