Welcome to The Bree Zav Stone Lab and our listing for Black Obsidian!
Free to good home – Black Obsidian
This listing is a one-of-a-kind listing for us. You do not have to buy obsidian to qualify. Make any purchase with us – any, and we’ll send you a small piece (~0.75” – 1.0”) of Black Obsidian. All you have to do is message us and say, “Black Obsidian, please.” You don’t even have to say ‘please’ if you don’t want. “Black Obsidian” will be enough. It’ll be one of the ones in the first picture above. [Or, if these run out and the offer is still up, it’ll be one just like them.] Incidentally, the second picture above is the exact same pieces flipped over. The first picture is each piece’s best side – and the second picture shows its worst side. We keep up that pattern for all ten photos. What you are seeing is the oxidation that takes places on Obsidian before it is cut and polished. No games, no gimmick! (Plus, the ‘free’ price makes it hard to hide a gimmick) Here’s the story behind it…
We dug this up ourselves. We found this Black Obsidian around Elk Pass in Washington state on our very first rockhounding adventure. We tried to chip the rough covering off to reveal the beautiful black volcanic glass underneath, and ended up with a tiny half inch gash on our finger. We bled like a stuck pig for almost two hours! It seemed like no matter what we did, we couldn’t stop the bleeding. After that, we changed our minds about chipping away at it. As you can see by the pictures, most all the pieces still have some oxidation on them. Nevertheless, they remain entirely serviceable pieces. You’ll find the dimensions for the ‘for sale’ pieces here:
Medium: 1.5” – 2.0”
Large: 2.0” +
Here’s some fun facts about Obsidian from Angel. Turns out the kids are still holding a resentment about the way it made us bleed so they aren’t helping with the listing. 😊
1. Obsidian was named after a Roman named Obsius who did NOT discover it. He did discover a similar stone in Ethiopia, though. They confused the two stones and he got credit for discovering a stone that had been known and used for eons. That’s probably the last time a dominant culture took credit for something that… sorry, laughing too hard…can’t finish.
2. Nostradamus used a scrying glass made of Obsidian.
3. A fearsome weapon of the Aztecs consisted of multiple Obsidian blades on a wooden handle. It was called, ‘The Macuahuitle’ and was featured on television’s Deadliest Warrior.
IF YOU ARE NEW TO THE WORLD OF CRYSTALS - PLEASE READ:
We enthusiastically encourage everyone to do their own research including what Sunny calls, ‘an intuitive interview’ with all your crystals. Just as every person has things that make them unique, so too does every crystal. All humans and all Obsidian have things in common, but they are all individuals as well. Sit with them, be with them – and create an individualized relationship with your crystals. For every different crystal or stone that you order, you’ll find a brief description and some of our observations about the crystals strengths and uses. Rarely more than a paragraph, we keep it brief because we feel like it would be a disservice to spare you the journey. You already have everything you need to know everything there is about your crystal inside of you. Trust yourself! Nevertheless, if you have specific questions, never hesitate to message us.
And now, a few things we think you may wish to know:
1. We can’t truly live for ourselves until we truly live for all.
2. You may have noted that we always start this section with a quote. The reason that we don’t credit anyone is because they are all our personal sayings. Though we tend to use a different quote for every stone, we do share the same quote within families – i.e., all Amethysts, Jaspers, Quartz, Calcites, etc.
3. Regarding our photos: We are brand new to photography. All our photos are taken with an Android phone that has a non-working flash. We take all of our photos in a lightbox and then convert them to high definition to compensate for this. Our crystals are all photographed dry – never wet. Lastly, all our photographic efforts are to designed to represent our products as honestly as we can.
4. All sizes/weights are estimates that are made in good faith. Lengths are calculated by measuring the longest side.
5. Before an order is shipped it sits on our alter during our thirty-minute morning meditation during which we dedicate Metta to the order heading to you. If for any reason, or even no reason, you would prefer we don’t do this with your order, please let us know so we can respect your wishes.
6. In every way that matters, we are all brothers and sisters awaiting the family reunion. Until then, if no one has told you they love you today, know that we do.
If you have ANY questions, requests, suggestions, etc., please do not hesitate to message us. And, just in case you’re still reading… Thank you for visiting.
